My Observations
Date: January 30, 2024 @ 08:30
Area: Wilson Lake Loop, clockwise, classic route to Suzy’s Pond back to Wilson Lake. 5.4km / 1.5hrs
Temperature: -1, warmed up to +3 by the time I was done
Weather: Fog, no precip
Wind: Calm
Visibility: Fair
Conditions: No new snow, Highly saturated, very dense snow. If you find trails fresh from the weekend crew, it’s packed down more, icier and faster. Off-trail or unused trail, has a light breakable crust, punchy in places with a nice, non-stick glide! Tip: Don’t lean onto your ski poles….
Observations: WORD OF THE DAY: “Moist”.
Skiing in the fog made it feel like a different world! Lots of bunny tracks and even saw my first winter-white Bunny today!!
Saw only one lone track of a Bobcat? Hard to tell as they were a bit old and melty.
CAUTION: I would take extreme care around the water, especially if you can see the surface. I would question the integrity of the ice surface since it’s been so warm and wet. And if you don’t break through, everything might end up sticking to your skis!
Rating: EXCELLENT
