Mining

Brenda Mine is located close to and above Peachland Lake, our watershed.  The mine is a former copper and molybdenum open pit mine which began operations in 1969 and ceased operations in 1990. The site occupies a total area of approximately 1,300 hectares. The closed mine operates a treatment plant which removes molybdenum from water collected on site. Treated water is discharged into MacDonald Creek, which is a tributary of Trepanier Creek.

Mining interests and proposed explorations continue in our watershed’s area.  On April 21, 2020, the District of Peachland Council strongly opposed the mining exploration application for Tenure #1049752, “New Brenda” site (tracking number 100246696).
