The Peachland Watershed Protection Alliance (PWPA) is a 100% volunteer-based grass-roots community organization. We are a registered society under the BC Societies Act. We are collaborative, and make decisions by consensus not majority. Our directors meet once a month on the 3rd Thursday, and member meetings, speaker series, and events are on the 4th Thursday. Our members meetings are open to all.
PWPA got its start in 2017 in response to a massive clear-cut that obliterated a proposed natural protected area above Peachland. Now referred to as the Wilson Lakes clear-cut, it wiped out 371 hectares of wilderness habitat, and contravened forestry regulations. A group of Peachlanders gathered around a resident’s dining room table and launched the working group that wold become PWPA.
Now with a Board of 10 individuals, PWPA has established strong relationships with environmental and political allies, including Westbank First Nation, the Okanagan Basin Water Board, CodeBlue, the District of Peachland, BC watershed protectors, The Council of Canadians, BC Coalition for Forestry Reform, and the Interior Watershed Task Force, and others.
