B’s Watershed Watch Update May 27, 2024

May 27, 2024 by Barb H

Barb Haley, Watershed Watch Chair

My Observations

Date: May 27, 2024 @10:00 am

Area: Up past Headwaters Lakes nad Crescent Lake, but before Whitehead Lake/Reservior

Temperature: 15C

Weather: Overcast

Visibility: Excellent

Conditions: Cool

Observations: So I put on my clever forest-diguise and followed the first empty logging truck that I saw heading up Princeton Road this morning. Don’t think he realized that I was following him, and for sure he never recognized me! If anybody stopped to question me I’d just say “This isn’t the way to Summerland?”

The truck turned up for Headwaters Lakes, then turned left, taking the road towards Summerland, passing Crescent Lake Rec Site. Just before this road forked (left option takes tyou to Whitehead Lake) there were several piles of logs along the side of the road. It appears that whoever is pulling the logs out from here, looks like its being selective as it isn’t completely leveled. At least now we know that SOME of the multiple trucks filled with logs are coming from here. But where else? There isn’t that much here to pick up at this point. There are the piles of logs still waiting up on Bolivar South “Spur 1” and up on Aspen Grove Road off of Brenda Mines Road….. Next empty logging truck I see, I’ll stick to it like glue!

Following the logging truck up Peachland FSR
Wonder what’s going on here? Just past Cresecent Lake, heading towards Summerland
Suspicious piles of trees
More trees pulled from this area. Not far from the turns for Whitehead Lake/Resevior
Appears to be selective logging?
Thi is where driver stopped to set up his trailer and turn around to grab a load.
