B’s Watershed Watch Update May 16, 2025

May 16, 2025 by Barb H

Barb Haley, Watershed Watch Chair

My Observations

Date: May 16, 2025 @1000

Area: Trout Creek Main, Sunset Main to Brenda Mine Road

Temperature: +10C

Weather: Overcast, kinda drizzly

Wind: Light

Visibility: Excellent

Conditions: Springy!

Observations: This morning I had to run over to our neighbors, Summerland and decided to take the long way back home and check out some of our watershed.

Starting at the 38Km mark was where I started to see the leftovers of the latest cut-blocks, I stopped counting after 3 large cut blocks that I could see from the road. There were more than that of course from years before. Pretty sad looking, the first phot below is one of the newer cut blocks and it was left completely devastated, some of the blocks are on very steep slopes above the road. Maybe expect a washout one day.

I got to the Headwaters Lakes and decided to tour even longer and turnd left onto Sunset Main and found the right turn that took me the back way over to Peachland Lake. The last 2 pictures is of our reservoir….it’s not looking much better than it did last Fall…..

There is a piece of the road at the top of the lake where a stream that is feeding the lake must have a culvert blocked and is washing over the road as we speak. That part of the road might not last too long.
