B’s Watershed Watch Update January 08, 2025

January 8, 2025 by Barb H

Barb Haley, Watershed Watch Chair

My Observations

NEW YEAR…..NEW LOGGING!!

Date: January 08, 2025 @0900am

Area: Glen Lake

Temperature: +1C

Weather: Foggy in the valley, Sunny and clear above that

Visibility: Good

Conditions: Excellent, except for the lousy view

Observations: Last nights fresh drop of approximately 1″ of light snow, thin breakable rain/melt crust about 4″ down, grauply non-bonded snow at or near the bottom

I’ll let the pictures tell my story.

First stop: A little visit along the way to see what the logging operation before Glen Lake is up to. Seemed pretty quiet, maybe pulling trees out, as there is a new pile by the road…fresh tracks on the new road.

What had caught my eye today, however, was the amount of energy, money and equipment/operator time is being spent on grading/snow clearing a road that I thought was decomissioned after all the Post Glen Lake Fire Mitigation Logging was done above Glen Lake (the system of roads north of the lake and well above the lake, heading towards Eneas Lake, at the north end of Glen Lake – where the road system begins)

Not surprised…nothing does with logging lately…that about 30 kms up to find another new logging operation…Same guys lately.
